Fire up the ROFLCopter!

This hilarious anti-Spamhaus blog has decided that the best way to get the word out is by pirating content from other sites about how people who have been blacklisted for spamming are angry. Yes, it's true. People who have been blacklisted are angry. Shocking.

Also, you apparently must hate free speech if you block access to their poorly written masterpiece:

"FREEDOM OF SPEECH IN THE UNITED STATES IS PROTECTED BY THE FIRST AMENDMENT TO THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION AND BY MANY STATE CONSTITUTIONS AND STATE FEDERAL LAWS. THIS STOPHAUS BLOG EXPRESSES PEOPLE'S OUTRAGE AT WHAT SPAMHAUS ORG DOES! BLOCKING OR CLOSING THIS BLOG MEANS CRIME AGAINST UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION."

No, nobody blocked your blog. It does seem to have died of boredom, though; the last post was back in May. O angry, semi-literate anonymous ranter, where have you gone?

  2. Silliness!

The constitution protects speech from censorship by the government; it has nothing to do with people like Spamhaus.

  3. stophaus.blogspot.com is spammer Christopher Alesich AKA spam outfit vividstream.com. Alesich is listed on ROKSO here: http://www.spamhaus.org/rokso/listing.lasso?file=1130

Alesich is incensed that Spamhaus put him on ROKSO and thinks that maybe Spamhaus will take him off ROKSO if he whines enough :)

  4. I'm all for stopping spam, but Spamhaus uses draconian practices that affect real business while attempting to stop what is essentially a nuisance if handled properly.

I manage one colocated server in an ISP datacenter. Because a spammer had placed a box in that datacenter, Spamhaus blocked the entire subnet, including my clean server, despite my IP never having sent spam.

In addition, they refused to talk to me and said that only the ISP could have the netblock removed, even when I pointed out the collateral damage.

According to the ISP they've already handled the spammer, but Spamhaus is demanding they disable ALL SMTP services on the entire subnet for a week before they will unblock the subnet.

Spamhaus really does like to go above and beyond. Regarding my "nuisance" comment, my own domain gets only a tiny bit of spam. A combination of Spamassassin and greylisting takes care of 99.5% of all of the spam that attempts to enter our servers. And I do that WITHOUT Spamhaus' help. Unfortunately both AOL and Hotmail use Spamhaus, so leaving the block up and telling users "too bad, tell your ISP to stop using Spamhaus" just isn't an option.

  5. Everybody who has ever been blacklisted or had to deal with a collateral damage listing thinks that they have a beef so well defined that the entire concept of blacklisting needs to be reconsidered. I'm not buying it. Spamhaus occasionally does things I disagree with, but I'm not seeing any data here that makes me suddenly think that they've done you some sort of massive wrong.
