Way back in 2020, I shared how you can utilize various cellular provider gateways to send an email to a certain address and have it land as a text message on a mobile device.
Today, it looks like AT&T is getting out of that business, having announced that they're shutting down their text-to-email gateway system as of June, 2025.
I'm guessing that for anybody sending significant amounts of email, this shutdown is a bit of a non-issue. Gateways such as these often have significant volume restrictions and work poorly as substitutes for sending SMS messages directly via an SMS messaging platform like Twilio.
