Friday Fun: Robyn: You've Got That Somethin'

Today I share with you Robyn's debut single from 1995. You all know who she is now, but were you aware of who she was then? Yeah, I was! I admit it. This album -- "Robyn is Here," from 1995, I actually purchased twice in the 1990s, because I wore out the first copy, playing it so often in my crappy car stereo that it stopped working and the only way to continue enjoying it was for me to replace it. It was a different time. Robyn was young, I was young(er than I am now), and there was only one other album that I was such a fan of to have purchased it twice (the other being Soul Coughing's 1994 debut, "Ruby Vroom"). Like I said, it was a different time.

I loved reading about Robyn's career and how her record company wanted her to be another Britney Spears, and how Robyn rejected that and forged her own path. That path led her to clear success (and wonderful artistry as a musician) and I've been such of fan of her and her music, all along the way. I love this dance pop, and I make no apologies for loving it.

Honestly? This is not even the best single from her first album, but it is the first single, and today I choose to celebrate it. Enjoy.
