Dylan from email service provider eROI talks about how he got an offer to sign up for services from a competing email service provider.
And, as Dylan puts it, "they are using my emailROI email address that I stopped using over 4 years ago. And this sender is something that I have never heard from before in my life nor have I got emails from them before."

The question becomes - Is he subscribed to third party offers at the "Human Resources News" where the offer was actually sent from?
ReplyDeleteVR looks to have rented the space from them, but presumably only asked for certain demographics to be mailed, in which Dylan might easily fall into as part of his current/previous roles at eROI. Sure exclusions could have been added, but excluding every ESP in the US is a fairly long list, especially when so many of them have changes names or ownership over the last 5 years.
I'm not saying it's right or wrong what happened, but the story is not 100% complete either.
It breaks down a bit more simply than that.
ReplyDeleteA competitor advertising via an email sender that Dylan has never heard of and has no recollected business relationship with, mailing to a very old address.
In other words, strong indicators that this is spam.
This is a good example of how important it is to keep your list updated.
