Friday Fun: The Beer Drinkers Guide to Email Authentication

It is Friday, which means you have earned that first sip of your favorite beverage. And that can be an adult beverage, if you like, and if you're old enough, and you're done with work for the day. But before you close that laptop and head to the pub, let's talk: about beer and email authentication. Yup. Really.

Lee Renahan has put together a fantastic and funny explainer video called The Beer Drinkers Guide to Email Authentication. Find it on Youtube or embedded below.

In it, he takes the complex and often dry world of SPF, DKIM, and DMARC and compares it all to the simple act of ordering a pint at the bar. SPF? It's like a list of acceptable pubs. DKIM? A tamper-proof keg. And DMARC ties it all together.

It is a clever and surprisingly accurate analogy for how these email authentication standards work together to keep phishing and spoofing in check. And if you have ever had to explain SPF, DKIM, or DMARC to a non-technical colleague, maybe this video can help?

I will drink to that.
