Pump Up the Jam, please!

It's Friday! Time to take a break from DMARC dilemmas and deliverability disasters to enjoy something truly vital: Technotronic and their magnum opus: Pump Up the Jam.

Technotronic was a Belgian music group, which is like a normal music group but with more waffles and less guitar. Their song Pump Up the Jam is what experts call a "banger," which is a song so powerful it can make your feet move even if you weren't planning on it. This particular jam was pumped to such unprecedented levels that it reached number two on the US music charts, likely missing the top spot only because Americans were not yet ready for that much jam.

The video is a masterclass in late 20th-century visual expression: fluorescent outfits, robotic dancing, and a woman lip-syncing a rap that may or may not have been delivered by someone else entirely. It's art. Or at least, it's music video art. Which is sort of like normal art, but louder and with more bike shorts. I love it.

It raises important questions like: What exactly is being pumped? And how much jam is too much jam? We may never know. But perhaps, in watching it, we'll discover a little something about ourselves. Or at least remember how much fun it is to shout "Get your booty on the floor tonight" at full volume on a Friday afternoon.

So, go ahead—stop worrying about how you're going to comply with the new Microsoft sender requirements, and Pump Up the Jam. You've earned it.
