Fun with data: Progressive sender list breakdown

Here's a quick data snapshot that a friend was kind enough to share. The friend manages a smaller progressive sender email list, and he brought this out when we happened to be chatting about the new APRF feedback standard. Right now, Comcast is the only provider offering up that feedback -- meaning that for this sender, the feedback gives him insight only on 1.8% of his email list. That's far from a majority, but that's okay -- it's still an interesting starting point.

The domain breakdown is roughly comparable to what we see in your typical B2C (consumer) marketing email list. I thought it would be good to share as yet another data point helping folks understand where most mailboxes are hosted for active internet users – in this case, ones actively interested in a cause and looking to engage on a given topic.
  1. gmail.com (60.00%)
  2. yahoo.com (8.70%)
  3. verizon.net (6.50%)
  4. aol.com (4.70%)
  5. hotmail.com (2.90%)
  6. comcast.net (1.80%)
  7. icloud.com (1.40%)
  8. msn.com (1.10%)
  9. outlook.com (0.70%)
  10. starpower.net (0.70%)
  11. mac.com (0.70%)
  12. earthlink.net (0.50%)
  13. me.com (0.50%)
  14. rcn.com (0.40%)
  15. Everything else (9.40%)
This is a domain-based breakdown. Those of you in the know will recognize that some of these domains are hosted by the same mailbox providers: Verizon, AOL and Yahoo are all Yahoo Mail. Hotmail, MSN, and Outlook are all Microsoft. Mac, Me and iCloud are Apple, and Starpower and RCN are both RCN/Astound.

TL;DR? Gmail is king.

Thank you to the progressive advocate who was kind enough to give me permission to share an overview of their data!
