The transition is complete, according to my little widget! All AT&T consumer mailbox domains now have MX records that point directly to Yahoo Mail's infrastructure.
The transition was announced back on June 24th, and here we are, just over a month later, it looks like all domains have switched over.
To recap, affected domains are: ameritech.net, att.net, bellsouth.net, currently.com, flash.net, nvbell.net, pacbell.net, prodigy.net, sbcglobal.net, snet.net, swbell.net, wans.net, and worldnet.att.net.
These are all now fully Yahoo Mail domains, from a sender's perspective. In the past, they were a bit of a hybrid configuration; with AT&T specific inbound mail gateways, and AT&T specific filtering, even though the mail eventually landed in mailboxes hosted on Yahoo Mail's servers.
This means:
- No more AT&T-specific blocking, so no more having to contact abuse_rbl @ ATT to request unblocking.
- Yahoo Mail bulk sender requirements (including email authentication, transparent mailing practices, keeping complaints low, etc.) now apply to all sends to all AT&T subscribers.
- AT&T domains are probably part of the Yahoo CFL (Complaint Feedback Loop), their version of an FBL. (I haven't personally confirmed this. We shall see.)
- You probably don't need to seed test both AT&T and Yahoo mailboxes separately. I have separate AT&T test mailboxes myself, because they're free to make and their filtering was slightly different than Yahoo's. I guess I can retire those now.
- The Yahoo Sender Hub is the place to go if you're looking for info or contacts for troubleshooting delivery problems to AT&T mailboxes.
I am reliably informed that AT&T has some good people keeping their consumer mail gateways up and secure; I thank them for their assistance and good work over the years and hope the future holds good things for them all.
August 2, 2025 Update: Well, I might have spoke too soon. Today, folks are seeing problems resolving any MX record for worldnet.att.net. I suspect some sort of DNS oopsie and I imagine folks will fix it as soon as possible. Feel free to check my online tester here to see current status.

Hi Al- I have been an ATT email customer since they started the Worldnet service, probably 30 years ago. I was still getting some emails directed to the email domain which seamlessly went to my email domain... until August 1. ATT has no idea why I am not getting them, cannot find the Worldnet domain on their list, and some of them never heard of it. Yours is the first place I could find to confirm that on August 2 2025 the emails stopped. Do you know if there is a fix yet? ATT is clueless and does not even know that they had that domain. Thanks! Beto
ReplyDeleteSometime back worldnet.att.net went away and customers had the option at the time to go to an att.net address. Now it seems according to your article that att.net is now also gone as well?
